Rekise Marine Powers India’s Maritime Future with Indigenous Autonomous Submarine for Indian Navy
Rekise Marine is proud to lead India’s journey toward maritime innovation by developing the Navy’s first indigenous autonomous submarine. This groundbreaking project marks a major leap in India’s naval capabilities, significantly enhancing security and surveillance across our maritime domains.
Rekise Marine co-founder and retired Rear Admiral Shekhar Mittal said, Our team has dedicated itself to designing and building this autonomous submarine entirely within India, showcasing the country’s growing expertise in advanced underwater technology. Signed a year ago with the Indian Navy, our two-year contract is progressing rapidly, with about 70 percent of the prototype now complete. We expect the first fully functional model to be ready within the next year, positioning India alongside global leaders such as the United States, Russia, and China, who already operate high-tech autonomous submarines.
At Rekise Marine, we prioritize security and reliability. By developing all design, technology, and software in India, we eliminate risks associated with foreign technology, such as spyware threats. This ensures the Indian Navy’s operations remain secure and sovereign, safeguarding sensitive information against external vulnerabilities.
Our autonomous submarine boasts an impressive underwater endurance of up to 45 days, allowing it to silently patrol and monitor India’s waters without the need for human intervention. This autonomy dramatically reduces operational costs and risk while enabling persistent presence in strategic areas. In fact, for the price of one conventional submarine, the Indian Navy could potentially deploy around 100 of these autonomous units, multiplying coverage and deterrence capability.
Flexibility is another key strength of our design. Currently measuring 11 meters in length, the submarine can be scaled up to 15–17 meters and customized to carry various payloads, including mines and torpedoes. This adaptability ensures the platform serves multiple roles—from intelligence gathering and surveillance to active military engagements.
Our vision extends beyond this prototype. Following successful tests, we are committed to delivering a new autonomous submarine to the Indian Navy every few months, steadily bolstering India’s maritime strength. Through this continuous production, Rekise Marine aims to be a cornerstone in securing India’s seas and supporting the Navy’s mission to protect the nation’s waters robustly and efficiently.
