LightSpeed Photonics raises USD 6.5 Mn in pre-Series A round
LightSpeed Photonics has secured $6.5M in pre-Series A funding led by pi Ventures, joined by 500 Global and others, bringing total funding to $8.5M, including grants.
LightSpeed develops compact optical interconnects for AI and HPC, using short-wavelength laser technology for faster speeds and lower power. They target AI, HPC, edge computing, and more.
The funds will establish an R&D center to speed up pilot projects. This investment fuels their optical interconnect product commercialization.
Other key participants in the pre-series A round included 500 Global, Indian Accelerator and 8X Ventures & Java Capital and angel investors in the Bay Area in California, United States.
LightSpeed, which was founded in 2021 by Rohin Y and Ramana Pamidighantam, aims to enable the future datacenter hardware capable of at least 10 times more data processing capabilities than the current systems. We bring a wholistic solution to the problem by leveraging our combined decades of experience in R&D in photonics, semiconductors, IC packaging and Opto-Electronic component design. By integrating photonics with processors, we strive to make data processing work up to at least ten times faster than existing technologies.
The company has secured 7 Patent applications and 23 Patent applications pending.
